"[...] the third-floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a very painful death."
— Part of the opening speech

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone takes place during the 1991-1992 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

During the school year, Albus Dumbledore kept the Philosopher's Stone in the Underground chambers. Voldemort tried to infiltrate Hogwarts and steal it, forcing Harry Potter to try and save it.

Events[]

  • In September, Harry Potter, the Boy who Lived, began attending and became a focus point for the whole school.[1] He later became the youngest Seeker at the school in nearly a century for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.[2]
  • A troll was let loose in the school during the Hallowe'en Feast and nearly killed Hermione Granger. Harry and Ron Weasley saved her using the Levitation Charm.[3]
  • The Philosopher's Stone was being kept in the Underground chambers. Voldemort possessed the Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Quirinus in order to take it. Harry, Ron and Hermione suspected Professor Snape was trying to steal it and went to try and save it. Harry faced Voldemort again and won. Voldemort fled and the Philosopher's Stone was saved. The whole school found out about happened.[4]
  • Harry, Ron and Hermione achieved fifty points each for Gryffindor and Neville Longbottom achieved ten points, placing Gryffindor in the lead and the winners of the House Cup, which placed Slytherin in second place. Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff celebrated too, because another Slytherin had won the House Cup for seven years.[5]
