January or February[]

March or April[]

  • Late March or early April: The teachers begin preparing students for their exams.
    • Quirrell begins to look more and more worried and pale every day.[2]
  • One afternoon: Harry, Ron and Hermione find out Hagrid has a dragon egg. He tells them about the underground chambers Dumbledore put together to protect the Philosopher's Stone.[2]
  • Early one morning: Hagrid sends a letter to Harry, Ron and Hermione telling them the dragon egg is hatching. Draco follows them and finds out about Norbert.
    • Hagrid won't let Norbert go because he is too young. When the dragon grows, it gets increasingly dangerous to be living in the Hut. He eventually agrees to send a letter to Charles Weasley to find out if he will pick him up.
  • Next Wednesday: Norbert bites Ron on the finger. Charlie sends a letter back and agrees to pick Norbert up on Saturday at midnight.
  • The next day on Thursday: Ron's finger swells up and he has to go to the Hospital Wing. Draco tells Ron he will tell everyone what really bit him. He takes a book which Ron hid Charlie's letter in and he finds out they are taking Norbert away the next day.
  • Friday evening: Hagrid says goodbye to Norbert and Harry and Hermione sneak out to meet Charlie's friends.
  • Saturday at midnight: Draco tells Professor McGonagall what they are planning to do. The two wait by the tower to catch them but Harry and Hermione hide under the Cloak of Invisibility and give Norbert away.
    • They are caught by Filch on the way back to their common room. They are taken to McGonagall. Neville Longbottom is there after sneaking out to warn Harry about Draco. Harry, Hermione, Neville and Draco lose significant house points. They are also told they will have detention and they should expect an owl telling them when.
  • The next day on Sunday: Students in Gryffindor are shocked by the number of house points they've lost overnight. When they discover Harry Potter is one of the people they were taken from, students in Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are annoyed and don't speak to him. Slytherin thank him for putting them ahead.

May[]

  • Late May: Harry overhears Quirrell talking about giving in and doing something. Harry suspects he is talking about stealing the Philosopher's Stone for Snape. Harry decides not to intervene and tell the other teachers because he has no proof.
  • The next day: Harry, Hermione, Neville and Draco receive their detention. They meet Filch at night who takes them to Hagrid. They help Hagrid search for a missing unicorn in the Forbidden Forest. Harry encounters a cloaked figure drinking the unicorn's blood. He is saved by Firenze who implies the cloaked figure is Voldemort.
    • Hermione tells Harry he shouldn't worry if Voldemort is nearby because he can't be harmed when Dumbledore is around.[3]

June[]

  • Early June: The exams are held at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry begins having nightmares which involve a cloaked figure.
    • Harry realises how odd it is that Hagrid, after wanting a dragon egg for years, is suddenly given one by a hooded figure for no apparent reason.
    • Harry finds out Hagrid drunkenly told the hooded person how to subdue Fluffy, who is the first line of defence for the Philosopher's Stone. Harry, Ron and Hermione try to tell Professor McGonagall who is shocked that they know about it but is not worried about the heavily guarded Stone getting stolen. When they find out Dumbledore is away for the day, they figure out the Stone will be taken that evening and decide to stop it.[4]
    • Harry, Ron and Hermione go through the undergrounds chambers after Fluffy falls asleep. They find the winged key, defeat a giant chessboard and solve a Potions riddle.
    • Harry faces Voldemort and with the help of the Mirror of Erised, he saves the Philosopher's Stone. Quirrell is killed when Voldemort abandons him. Harry is saved by Dumbledore.
  • Three days later: Harry wakes up in the Hospital Wing.
  • The next day: The final day of term. Gryffindor wins the House Cup and beats Slytherin who have won for seven years in a row.
  • Mid-June: The grades for the exams are given out. Everyone heads home for the summer. Hagrid gives Harry a book of photos of the Potter family.[5]

    • The Slytherin Quidditch team show up and claim they have booked the pitch. The two teams start arguing during which Draco calls Hermione a "Mudblood". He falls in the process and breaks his arm. Lockhart uses a spell which accidentally removes the bones in his arm. He has to spend the evening in the Hospital Wing growing the bones back.[29]
    • Later that night, Dobby shows up and admits he made Harry and Ron miss the train and set the rogue Bludger on him. He tells Harry that he needs to leave because he is in danger. Harry realises it has something to do with the Chamber of Secrets but Dobby won't say anything about it. Harry finds out Colin Creevey is petrified.[30]
