The acceptance letter is sent by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to tell a witch or wizard they are accepted into their school. It is sent around the time of their eleventh birthday. It first appears in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
About[]
The letter is written on parchment which is placed in a heavy envelope. The address with the letter is written with emerald green ink with the stamp of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry placed on it. The letter magically knows where the recipient is living at the time and if they move. It will be sent by owl to children who know about the magic world and they reply by owl within in a given time frame. If they do not know about the magic world, the letter is sent with one of the teachers to the home of Muggle-born children where they tell the child and their family about it.[1]
Harry Potter's letter was sent by the Muggle post but he is a rare example of a child raised in the Muggle world and yet should have known about magic. The sender will know whether the child has read the letter and will keep sending them until they have.[2] They will increase the number of letters they send each day until they eventually send a representative with it. The letter has a second page with the name of every book and other supplies they will need bring. The letter is signed by the Deputy Head of Hogwarts, with the name of the Head of Hogwarts written on the header of it.[3]
