Ancient runes is a form of writing with a runic alphabet and logogram once used by witches and wizards.

Usage[]

The form of writing was still being used in the Middle Ages. Beedle the Bard originally wrote his book, The Tales of Beedle the Bard in ancient runes during the fifteenth century. Hermione Granger translated the book from the original runes in the twenty-first century.[1]

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has a subject, Study of Ancient Runes to teach young witches and wizards the theoretical study and translation of ancient runic scriptures. It was Hermione's favourite subject.[2]
