Antioch Peverell is a pure-blood[3] wizard with two younger brothers, Cadmus and Ignotus Peverell. They are the inspiration for The Tale of the Three Brothers in The Tales of Beedle the Bard. Antioch is thought to have possessed the Elder Wand which some say he had requested from Death itself, while believe Antioch crafted it. He is murdered for the wand in his sleep.

Biography[]

Antioch was born sometime in the Middle Ages. He had two younger brothers, Cadmus and Ignotus Peverell.[2]

The true story is uncertain but in The Tales of Beedle the Bard, the three brothers are walking when they reach a perilous river that claims the lives of those who try to cross it. They use their wands to build a bridge and start walking when Death appears because he feels cheated and pretends to congratulate the brothers. Death offers a reward for their skill and the combative Antioch requests "a wand more powerful than any other in existence: a wand that must always win duels for its owner, a wand worthy of a wizard who had conquered Death!". Death crossed to an Elder tree on the banks of the river and crafted a wand from a branch for Antioch.[2] Others believe that Antioch crafted the Elder Wand himself.[4]

After obtaining the wand, Antioch parted ways with his brothers and travelled to a distant village. There, he found a wizard that he was quarrelling with and duelled him with the Elder Wand. With his powerful wand, Antioch easily won the duel and killed his opponent. He then decided to go to an inn to celebrate where he bragged about his invincibility with the wand that he had "snatched from Death". While he slept that night, another wizard slit his throat and stole the wand.[2]
