The Ban on Experimental Breeding is a wizarding law created by Newton Scamander. Enforced by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures at the Ministry of Magic, the law prevents the creation of new and untameable Wizard-bred creatures in Britain.[1]

The law prevents the breeding of new and untameable Wizard-bred magical creatures in Britain.[1] The Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures keep a very strict watch over the creation of new species.[2] Newton Scamander was particularly proud of the law and considered it a highlight of his career in Magizoology.[1] The Acromantula is a Wizard-bred creature created centuries before the law and so its creation was not prohibited at the time.[3]
Trivia[]
- After the law was passed, Rubeus Hagrid bred the Blast-Ended Skrewt.[4] Fred and George Weasley also bred the Pygmy Puff.[5] It is unknown why Hagrid, Fred and George don't receive any kind of punishment for it.[4] It is possible that these creatures aren't considered dangerous enough to warrant the prevention of their creation, that the law has exceptions and they obtained permission to create them.
