Benedict is a character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He is a Muggle and Franciscan Monk from Worcestershire who encountered a Jarvey which he mistook for a ferret.[1]
Biography[]
In the Middle Ages, Brother Benedict was in the Herbe Garden when he encountered a Jarvey behind a basil bush which Benedict thought it was a giant ferret. After disturbing the Jarvey, it leapt at him and threw him backwards onto the ground, crying with fury that he should "Get out of it, baldy!" before viciously biting his nose. Benedict's nose bled for several hours.[1]
Benedict told the Friar about what he thought was a talking ferret but he could not believe it and asked if he had been sipping Brother Boniface's turnip wine. Benedict was excused Vespers because of his nose that was still bleeding. He wrote about this in a manuscript. A broken fragment of it was discovered centuries later.[1]
