The shop is known for selling and buying unusual, ancient artefacts (many of them Dark and dangerous artefacts), and has a reputation for being a popular shop for those who have sinister and shady intentions.[2]

It is very large, dusty and dimly lit. Connected to the Floo Network, it has several products in the shop. These include a glass case with a withered Hand of Glory in it, evil-looking artefacts and bones and spiked instruments hanging. They have an Opal Necklace collection with a caution sign. It has a large, black cabinet, and a bell rings whenever the front door is opened. It is on a very narrow, dark street. It is the largest shop in the road.[2]

History[]

1992[]

In the summer of 1992, Harry Potter got out of the Floo Network at the wrong time when heading to Diagon Alley, and ended up in Borgin and Burkes. Mr Borgin was working but he had no idea that Harry was in the shop. Harry hid in the black cabinet when Lucius and Draco Malfoy went in the shop to sell artefacts to Mr Borgin, because they were not going to look good if the Ministry of Magic conducted a raid at their house.[2]

Lucius was an important buyer to Mr Borgin, and he looked at the artefacts that he wanted to sell but saw an opportunity to sell the Hand of Glory when Draco looked at it. Lucius was not interested and asked Mr Borgin to continue looking at the artefacts. He was expected at their house to next day to collect those artefacts.[2]
