A Braking Charm is an enchantment in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The spell is imbued into broomsticks so they will stop quickly when needed. Every Firebolt has an "unbreakable" braking charm placed on it.[1]
In the 1920s, the creators of the Comet Trading Company patented the Horton-Keitch braking charm.[2]
Trivia[]
- It is unknown whether or not the Nimbus 2000 or other racing brooms had this same charm, as it is used as an advertisement point for the Firebolt,[1] and when Harry fell off the Nimbus, it did not stop on its own.[3]
