Butterbeer is a popular beverage in the wizarding world. It is sold in a number of establishments including the Three Broomsticks Inn. It first appears in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Barny the Fruitbat has featured in Butterbeer adverts with the slogan "I'm just batty about Butterbeer!"[2]
In October 1993, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger had Butterbeer in the Three Broomsticks Inn for the first time.[1] In December, Harry Potter tried it for the first time and thought it was delicious.[3] In February 1994, Professor Lupin bought a couple of Butterbeers to an anti-Dementor lesson for Harry because he had earned it.[4] In the spring, Fred and George Weasley snuck into Hogsmeade to buy Butterbeer for a party their school house was holding at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[5]
Trivia[]
- There is implied to be some level of alcohol in butterbeer; house-elves, such as Winky, are able to get drunk off of the beverage, while humans cannot.[6]
