Cadmus Peverell is a pure-blood[3] wizard and the brother of Antioch and Ignotus Peverell. They are the inspiration for The Tale of the Three Brothers in The Tales of Beedle the Bard. He is thought to have possessed the Resurrection Stone which some say he had requested from Death itself. Cadmus kills himself to join his late fiancée when the Resurrection Stone does not truly bring her back to life.
Biography[]
Cadmus was born sometime in the Middle Ages. He had one older brother, Antioch and one younger, Ignotus Peverell. At some point, he was engaged to be married but his fiancée died before their wedding could take place.[2]
The true story is uncertain but in The Tales of Beedle the Bard, the three brothers are walking when they reach a perilous river that claims the lives of those who try to cross it. They use their wands to build a bridge and start walking when Death appears because he feels cheated and pretends to congratulate the brothers. Death offers a reward for their skill and Cadmus, wishing to further humilate Death, requests the ability to bring the dead back to life. Death took a stone from the banks of the river and created the Resurrection Stone.[2] Others believe that Cadmus crafted the Stone himself.[4]
After obtaining the Stone, Cadmus returned to his home where he lived alone. After turning the Stone thrice, his dead fiancée was revived. But she was cold and unhappy and he could still feel a veil was separating them. Cadmus was driven mad and eventually killed himself to join her.[2]
