Biography[]
Early life[]
When Charlie attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he befriended Rubeus Hagrid. He was fond of Charlie because he was good with animals.[3] He studied Care of Magical Creatures.[4]
He was very good at Quidditch and he was the Seeker and Captain of the House team. He helped them win the Inter-House Quidditch Cup at least once.[3] He was said to be that good at the sport that he should have had a professional career and joined the England team.[5]
Philosopher's Stone[]
In June 1991, he graduated Hogwarts. By September, Charlie began working in a sanctuary in Romania to study and look after dragons.[6] Hagrid asked Charlie's brother Ron how he was doing.[7] He had purchased a new wand by then and gave the old wand to Ron.[6] Mr and Mrs Weasley spent the Christmas holidays with Charlie in Romania.[8]
In around April 1992, Ron sent Charlie a letter telling him about Rubeus Hagrid's baby dragon named Norbert. He asked Charlie whether he could fly to Hogwarts in order to collect it and take it to the sanctuary in Romania. Charlie agreed to send friends to pick Norbert up when they were on their way to Romania. He was worried they would get caught and get in trouble, so he asked Ron to meet them on the highest tower at midnight. Norbert was successfully sent to Charlie.[9]
Prisoner of Azkaban[]
In the summer of 1993, Charlie was invited on a month-long holiday with his family to visit Bill in Egypt. They appeared in a photograph on the front of the Daily Prophet.[10]
Goblet of Fire[]
Charlie returned home to The Burrow during the summer holidays to attend the final of the 422nd Quidditch World Cup with his family. Harry Potter later arrived and realised Charlie and his brother, Bill had to be the people talking together at the table. Charlie was the first to get up and greet Harry with a handshake.[11]
The morning of the final, Charlie and his two oldest brothers did not travel with Arthur by Portkey. Instead, they Apparated out to the moor after lunch. During the final, Charlie wore a green rosette in support of Ireland. When the Bulgarian Seeker, Viktor Krum used the feinting tactic to knock out Aidan Lynch, Charlie told Ginny that he would be okay and that he only got ploughed like Krum had intended. Later on, he noticed that Lynch was diving and started bellowing about the Golden Snitch.[12] When they returned to their tents, Charlie and Arthur disagreed with each other on the tactic of cobbing.[13]
During the night, the campsite was attacked by Death Eaters. Charlie ran to help the Ministry with a counter-attack along with Bill and Percy. Whenever they got close enough to capture and reveal the identity of Death Eaters, they Disapparated. They also saw Mr Roberts and his family being tortured in the air and caught them before they hit the ground. They returned to their tents to wait for their father who also returned shortly after. Charlie learned that Bartemius Crouch Snr.'s house-elf, Winky had been caught holding Harry Potter's wand near the area where a Dark Mark had been cast.[13]
Charlie stayed at the Burrow for the rest of the summer, where one evening he darned a fireproof balaclava.[14] The day his brothers and sister were returning to Hogwarts, Charlie decided to go to King's Cross to wave everyone off. On the platform, Charlie told everyone that they might be seeing him sooner than they thought and said not to tell Percy because it was "classified information". However, he did not elaborate on why.[15]
Appearance[]
Charlie is short and stocky with a broad, good-natured face, red hair and muscular arms. He has spent a lot of time working outside which has made his face very freckly, weather-beaten and tan-like. One of his arms has a large, shiny burn presumably inflicted by a dragon. His big hands and fingers have calluses and blisters.[11]
