The Cheering Charm was a charm in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

The spell caused a person to feel very content, unless it was overdone which instead induced hysterical laughter.[1] The effect was known to begin wearing off in about an hour.[2]

History[]

The charm was taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to third-year students studying Charms.[2]

In 1993, they were put into pairs for one of their lessons. Harry and Ron thought a struggling, absent Hermione could have benefitted if she had been put under the spell, but she failed to show up for the lesson. She was later worried she would fail her end-of-year examination if Professor Flitwick included it.[2] Professor Flitwick did include it in their exam but Harry overdone the spell on Ron, who had to be taken away until he stopped hysterically laughing.[1]
