De-gnoming

Harry and Ron de-gnoming The Burrow

De-gnoming is a process of getting rid of gnomes in a garden. It appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

About[]

It was done by grabbing the gnome, pulling them from their gnomehole and throwing it out of the garden.[1] In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Newton Scamander suggests swinging the gnome around until it is dizzy and then dropping it over the garden wall is the best approach. He also says that a Jarvey could be used to hunt gnomes but it is considered too "brutal".[2] Lots of witches and wizards prefer to throw gnomes further from their garden. Throwing the gnome does not hurt it.[1]

History[]

The Burrow has a heavily infested garden so the Weasley family had to de-gnome it. They had bets on who could throw their gnome the furthest. Harry Potter once helped Ron, Fred and George de-gnome it when they had to for flying the Ford Anglia.[1]

De-gnoming The Burrow

Gilderoy Lockhart wrote about the process in his book, Gilderoy Lockhart's Guide to Household Pests. Mrs Weasley asked whether her children wanted to look at the book prior to de-gnoming the garden at The Burrow, but they declined.[1]
