A Dementor's Kiss is an act in which a Dementor sucks out a person's soul. It is a fate worst than death. It is used by the Ministry of Magic on a prisoner of Azkaban who escapes.

About

When a Dementor's Kiss was performed, a Dementor will lower their hood, shut their mouth around their victim and suck their soul out until it is gone. The victim is abandoned in a permanent vegetative state, an empty shell which has no thoughts and feelings. The body is sustained by their heart and brain which continue working, but they can never be healed and brought back because their soul is gone forever.

History

In February 1994, the Ministry of Magic gave Dementors permission to use it upon Sirius Black when he was found.
