The Department of Mysteries is a department at the British Ministry of Magic.
About[]
Unlike every other department within the British Ministry of Magic, the Department of Mysteries is possibly the only one that isn't answerable to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.[2]
Unspeakables, who carry out top secret work, are employed in this department. Nobody else knows what they get up to.[3]
History[]
In 1672, they conducted intensive studies into the origin of witches and wizards. They concluded that they cannot be created and that witches and wizards have to be born, inheriting their magic through their bloodline.[1]
