Dragon eggs have a developing young dragon growing in it. The appearance of each egg varies depending on the species of dragon. They are given the protection of a Class A Non-Tradeable Material grade.[1] They first appear in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
About[]
Every half an hour, the eggs need flames blown on them to incubate them and keep them warm.[1] They could grow up to 12x18 inches.[2]
History[]
In spring 1992, Rubeus Hagrid was given the dragon egg of a Norwegian Ridgeback from Quirinus Quirrell, who was under the guise a stranger in the Hog's Head. Hagrid kept it and learned how to care for it by reading Dragon-Breeding for Pleasure and Profit. It later hatched in the Hut.[1]
Known eggs[]
- Hungarian Horntail: cement-looking egg.[3]
- Norwegian Ridgeback: huge black egg.[1]
