The Engorgement Charm is a spell in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The spell causes the target to swell and grow significantly bigger than its normal size.[1]
History[]
In 1832, Abel Treetops put the Engorgement Charm on Kneazles and then tried to claim they were really Wampus Cats that he had tamed. After he tried to patent the method of taming these cats, this was proven fradulent when the Magical Congress of the United States of America raided his house and discovered the truth.[2]
In the early twentieth century, Silvanus Kettleburn put the charm on an Ashwinder that was playing the part of the Worm in a Hogwarts pantomime adaptation of The Fountain of Fair Fortune. Upon the drawing of the curtain, the Ashwinder exploded.[3]
In the late twentieth century, Rubeus Hagrid was growing pumpkins with the Engorgement Charm to get them to grow bigger quickly. It was against the law because Hagrid's wand had been broken centuries earlier after he was expelled from Hogwarts, and he was not supposed to use magic. Hermione Granger didn't approve but she found it funny.[1]
