The Evans family are a Muggle family with a magical ancestor and a Muggle-born witch, Lily Potter (née Evans).

In the mid-21st century, Petunia and her younger sister by Lily were born to their parents. Lily learned she was a Muggle-born witch at the age of eleven. They lived near Spinner's End in Cokeworth.[1]
Their parents were very proud of both Lily and Petunia. However, Petunia thought that they favoured her younger sister.[2] Petunia later married Vernon Dursley and Lily married James Potter. They both had one child each, Dudley Dursley and Harry Potter.[3][4] By the time Lily was killed, their parents had passed away.[5]
The family name does not appear to have been passed down, meaning their lineage continues through the female line with the Dursley and Potter families.[4] Harry saw his maternal family for the first time when he looked in the Mirror of Erised. He realised he had inherited his bright, green eyes from his mother and many others on her side of the family.[6]
