Floo powder is a glittery, silver powder used by witches and wizards to travel through the Floo Network. It will transport them to other buildings in seconds.

About[]

Floo powder is a glittery powder that has to be thrown into a flame which turns emerald green while it rises up high. The person wanting to to travel has to walk into the flames and pronounce the name of their destination very clearly. It is important to keep their eyes shut, elbows tucked in and get out at the right grate.[1]

In the summer of 1992, Harry Potter tried the powder for the first time but he didn't speak clearly enough when he gave the name of the location he wanted to go to, and was transported to the wrong grate in Borgin and Burkes.[1]

Trivia[]

  • In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when Arthur and the Weasley boys use the Floo Network to access the Dursleys fireplace only to find themselves blocked, Arthur tells Fred to go back, even though there is no active fire while they were stuck. This could imply a means to return via Floo Powder immediately after arriving, or is merely a plot hole or inconsistency in the writing.
