This diary belonged to Gertie Keddle, a witch who recorded the earliest known Quidditch games. It is written in badly spelled Saxon and has been translated.[1]
History[]
In 1050, Gertie Keddle lived in Queerditch Marsh where she observed the earliest games of Quidditch being played. She tracked the evolution of the games every Tuesday for three weeks. Her first entry describes the players having returned to "play a stupid game on broomsticks" and that she hexed the "great hairy hog" who tried to collect their leather ball when it fell in her cabbages.[1]
Gertie's second entry records her having watched behind a rock when the players returned to play with a new ball. They were now throwing it to each other and through trees at both ends of the marsh which she thought was "pointless". In the third entry, she had tea with Gwenog and then they went outside where they observed another game being played. The players had started enchanting big rocks to chase them around and knock them down, which didn't happen while they were watching. After noticing one of her neighbours was playing, Gwenog also revealed that she often played causing Gertie to leave in disgust.[1]
The diary was recovered and kept in the Museum of Quidditch centuries later.[1]
