Biography[]

Gryffindor was born and raised in a land in the West County that was eventually Godric's Hollow. He was thought to be the best duellist of the time. Being called the best wizards of their time for their brilliance, Gryffindor and three friends, Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw and Helga Hufflepuff founded Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry together. He prized students of courage, bravery and strength of heart and he was in favour of teaching Muggle-borns.[1]

However, Gryffindor and Slytherin started arguing because Slytherin only wanted to teach half-bloods and pure-blood students. He was unable to convince the founders and he and Gryffindor eventually had a huge argument that involved a duel. Slytherin abandoned the school, but unknown to Gryffindor he had put a Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets to eventually purge the school of Muggle-born students.[1]

At an unknown point, the four founders had to decide how to sort students into their Houses when they had passed away. Gryffindor invented the Sorting Hat, enchanting a hat to look into the minds of students and find out which House values they suit.

Gryffindor invented the Sword of Gryffindor at an unknown date.
