The Hallowe'en Feast is an event in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. It is an annual dinner held at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry every 31 October in celebration of Hallowe'en.

About[]

The dinner is held in the Great Hall which is festooned. It has candy-filled pumpkins, cauldrons of lollipops, orange streamers[1] and live bats flying above.[2][3][1] The food is absolutely delicious and is served on golden plates.[2] Students look forward to the feast every year.[3]

Entertainment is sometimes booked. Professor Dumbledore once booked a troupe of dancing skeletons. Rubeus Hagrid once carved large lanterns out of pumpkins.[3] School ghosts perform for students including popping out of the walls and doing formation gliding.[1]

History[]

In 1991, the feast was interrupted by Professor Quirrell who had let a troll loose in the school.[2] He used the distraction to try and get past Fluffy in a third-floor corridor but he was noticed by Professor Snape who intervened.[4] Harry and Ron and Hermione defeated the troll.[2]

In 1992, Harry agreed to go to Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday Party instead and regretted it when he saw the Great Hall decorated and heard Professor Dumbledore had booked a troupe of skeletons. Ron and Hermione joined Harry but they later decided to leave and head to the feast. En route, they found a Petrified Mrs Norris and when the feast ended, students leaving found Harry at the scene and thought he did it.[3]

In 1993, Harry and Ron attended the feast for the first time in two years while Hermione attended for the first time. Sirius Black broke in to the school during the feast and slashed the Fat Lady's portrait to get to Peter Pettigrew. That evening, students had to sleep in the Great Hall.[1]
