Harry Potter Books Wiki

Harry Potter's wand is eleven inches with holly wood and a phoenix feather core.

Garrick Ollivander tells him the wand has an unusual combination because holly is not an easy match for phoenix feather. The phoenix who donated the feather, Fawkes, also gave a second feather which was used for Voldemort's wand, making their wands brothers incapable of duelling each other.

History[]

In August 1991, Harry Potter purchased the wand for seven galleons at Ollivanders. The combination was an unusual one because holly is not a normal pairing for a phoenix feather. The feather was taken from the same phoenix that Tom Riddle's wand had. He thought Harry was going to achieve great things because of the wand.[1]

During the summer of 1992, Vernon Dursley locked the wand in the Cupboard under the Stairs.[2] Later, Fred and George Weasley used a pin to unlock the door and get it for him while they helped him escape in the Ford Anglia.[3] In May 1993, the physical form of Tom Riddle from his Diary took Harry's wand during their confrontation in the Chamber of Secrets. He put it in his pocket but when Harry destroyed the Diary, it fell to the ground.[4]

While he was fleeing Death Eaters after the final of the 422nd Quidditch World Cup, Harry dropped his wand in the forest. The wand was discovered by Barty Crouch Jnr. who used it to cast the Dark Mark into the sky. Barty quickly fled the scene and left the wand behind. Winky picked it up and was stunned shortly after by Ministry officials trying to apprehend the culprit, but she was also in trouble for breaking the Code of Wand Use. Prior Incantato was used on the wand to reveal the last spell it had produced, which was the Dark Mark. It was returned to Harry after the initial investigation concluded.[5]
