Harry Potter books are a series of seven popular novels by J.K. Rowling. They chronicle the life of a young wizard, Harry Potter and friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger while they attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He faces a Dark wizard, Voldemort who wants to gain immortality and control the wizarding world.

In 1997 to 2007, seven books were published by Bloomsbury and Scholastic, starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The books were very popular and found profound success worldwide. They gained critical acclaim and worldwide commerical success, launching one of the highest-grossing film series ever, a spin-off, a digital platform, Wizarding World and a theme park.

They are the best-selling book series ever, selling millions of copies and being translated into eighty languages. The final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sold over twelve millions copies in the United States. Rowling has since written a group companions novels, including Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard. Illustrators have and continue to produce new illustrations and covers for the books, including Jim Kay who produced the Illustrated Editions.
