Blocking Policy details how a user can be prevented from contributing to the wiki. Block lengths will vary depending on the severity of the disruption. Blocks are carried out by administrators are users who are responsible for issuing blocks in order to enforce site policies.
When considering whether to issue a block, administrators should remember the principle of assuming good faith. For example, article blanking or the addition of fanon may simply be a user's well-meaning, if misguided, attempt to improve the wiki. Blocking is the last-resort option when talking with the relevant user and giving warnings do not stop the situation.
An admin will block anyone deliberately damaging pages or displaying inappropriate behaviour on the wiki. The admin will have the final say on how long an editor will be blocked once they've considered what the edit was and how long the problem continued for. The editor should be warned beforehand to give them a chance to stop.
A first offence will have a three day block. The second offence will increase the block length to thirty days. A third offence will have an infinite block. Indefinite blocking will happen immediately if the account is clearly being used for trolling, spam or severe language and personal attacks. Users can appeal their blocking on their own talk-page if they intend to apologise and ask for leniency. They will be prevented from editing their talk-page if they abuse it.
An administrator can be notified on their own talk-pages if there are problems. The user should have been warned beforehand. If an edit is reversed, please explain why and direct the user the policies. Do not engage in an argument or edit-war.
The following are some examples of inappropriate behaviour which will be prevented with a block:
- Keep it civil: Do not engage in personal attacks on other editiors. Do not use deragotory words to insult another person. Focus on the content itself, not the user making them.
- Be a productive member of the wiki: Contribute to the wiki by ensuring its policies are upheld. Do not be counter-productive by edit-warring or arguing over differing opinions, or continue after being given a warning to stop.
- No self-promotion: this is a collaborative community creating a resource for the Harry Potter books. It is not a free place to promote personal websites, products, companies, services, YouTube channels, blogs or social media accounts.
- Do not harass other users: please respect other users.
