A Hidebehind is a wizarding beast in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. They are the result of a Demiguise reproducing with a ghoul.[1]

Hidebehinds are a nocturnal creature with the ability to turn invisible. They are tall, silver-haired and skinny like a bear. It is likely that the reason their preferred prey is humans is due to the cruelty the species suffered at the hands of Phineas Fletcher when they were first bred.[1]
History[]
On a ship heading to America from the Old World, the Hidebehind was accidentally created when a ghoul stowed onboard and bred with a trafficked Demiguise that had escaped its cage. The person responsible for illegally importing the Demiguise, crook Phineas Fletcher, treated the creatures with cruelty. When the ship docked, the Hidebehinds fled into the forests of Massachusetts. They still infest the forests centuries later.[1]
At the request of President Seraphina Picquery of the Magical Congress of the United States of America, the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them did not include the Hidebehind in its first edition published in 1927. In an edition published in 2017, the author Newton Scamander finally added it to the contents.[1]
