The Hut-on-the-Rock is a perched hut in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Vernon, Petunia, Dudley Dursley and Harry Potter stay a night at the hut in order to stop Harry getting an acceptance letter for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

History[]

For his eleventh birthday, Harry Potter received his acceptance letter. When his guardians tried to stop him reading it, he kept receiving letterd over six days. Vernon Dursley started taking Petunia, Dudley and Harry from place to place to avoid being found.[1]

He eventually found the Hut-on-the-Rock. He thought witches and wizards couldn't cross water so he purchased the hut to stay until the sender gave up. Vernon took rations but he only had a packet of crisps and a banana each for the four of them. He rowed over to the broken house, and Petunia set up a nice bed for Dudley.[1]

The evening of the 30 July, a huge storm hit the hut. However, at midnight on 31 July which is Harry's birthday, Rubeus Hagrid knocked down the door. He had an acceptance letter and birthday cake for Harry but Vernon was angry and held a gun to Hagrid.[1] Hagrid broke it, and informed Harry that he was a wizard and he found out what actually happened to James and Lily Potter. Hagrid made a hearty meal for Harry to eat, and then he stayed the night. Harry and Hagrid then left the hut together the next day, and Vernon, Petunia and Dudley went home to Privet Drive.[2]
