A Kneazle is a cat-like creature in the wizarding world.

About[]

A Kneazle is a cat-like creature with flecked, speckled or spotted fur. They have outsized ears and a tail like a lion. They have up to eight kittens in a litter and can interbreed with cats.[1] Kneazles are very intelligent and independent but they can be aggressive. If they like a witch or wizard, they are very good pets. They can lead their owner home if they get lost. Kneazles are very good at detecting disguises or anything untrustworthy.[1][2] They can detect an Animagus and communicate with their animal counterpart.[2]

To own a Kneazle, there is a licence needed because their appearance is unusual to Muggles.[1]

History[]

Newton and Porpentina Scamander had three pet Kneazles, Hoppy, Miller and Mauler.[3]

Crookshanks was a half-Kneazle, half-cat who was adopted by Hermione Granger. He detected that her friend Ronald Weasley's pet rat was the Animagus of Peter Pettigrew, and knew Sirius Black's was a black dog. Crookshanks learned through Black that Peter was an untrustworthy traitor, and helped Black to try and get Peter. Black later told Hermione how Crookshanks was very intelligent for his own kind.[2]
