The Leaky Cauldron was the popular wizarding world pub that led to Diagon Alley.

The pub was located in Charing Cross Road. It was a shabby-looking pub and had a wall where, when the right brick above a dustbin was tapped three times, an archway appeared which led to Diagon Alley.[1]

Down a narrow corridor was a small parlour. It had chairs and a fireplace which sprung to life when the landlord clicked their fingers. Each lodging room was numbered in brass letterings and luggage could be taken up by a worker. To get to these lodgings, you had to go up a handsome, wooden staircase. Each room had polished oak furniture, comfortable beds, a fireplace, a wardrobe[2] and a bathroom which had a talking mirror. It spoke in a wheezy voice.[3] There were at least twelve lodgings.[2][3]

There was a main hall where food and drink were served at a bar. Breakfast was served every day. Each lodging was tidied in the daytime.[3] It was connected to the Floo Network.[4]

In the summer of 1991, Harry Potter and Rubeus Hagrid went through the pub to reach Diagon Alley. The landlord, Tom greeted Harry, and many of customers including Doris Crockford and Dedalus Diggle copied. Harry spoke to Quirinus Quirrell for the first time and found out he was teaching at Hogwarts School.[1]

In the summer of 1992, Arthur Weasley took Mr and Mrs Granger to chat for an hour. Their company parted ways at the pub later and the Weasley family and Harry took the Floo Network back to The Burrow.[4]

In August of 1993, Harry and Marge Dursley had an argument and he accidentally inflated her. He thought he was in trouble and run away. He took the Knight Bus and decided to spend an evening at the Leaky Cauldron. He later arrived but found Cornelius Fudge waiting near the entrance. Tom showed up bearing a lantern and took Fudge and Harry to a private parlour. He gave them tea and crumpets while they talked.[2]

Fudge and Tom arranged for Harry to stay in room number eleven until September. Tom had taken Harry's luggage up and let Hedwig in. Harry thought he was very lucky and looked out the window until going to sleep.[2] Harry had breakfast in the Leaky Cauldron every day. For the final evening of summer, Hermione Granger and the Weasley family stayed for Harry. Ron and Percy Weasley took room number twelve. That evening, they had a five-course dinner, including chocolate cake.[3]
