Levitation is the magical ability to make something lift above the ground, and is only achieved by putting spells on objects or living things. One such spell is the Levitation Charm.

Billywig stings cause people to levitate off the ground temporarily. However, permanent levitation has been known to happen when the sting causes an allergic reaction.[1]
History[]
Levitation is commonplace in the wizarding world. Although there are spells that can levitate witches and wizards, they preferred something more than that. Hence, they invented the broomstick so they could fly higher and with more mobility.[2]
