Harry Potter Books Wiki

Magizoology is the study of magical animals in the wizarding world. Those who work in the field are called a "Magizoologist". Newton Scamander is a very famous Magizoologist who used his knowledge to pen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The job first appears in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Overview[]

The witches and wizards who work in the field of Magizoology are given the title "Magizoologist", or in fewer cases, wizarding naturalist. By protecting and caring for magical creatures, they ensure that future generations can also share their enjoyment of their beauty and powers.[1]

The subject Care of Magical Creatures is taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for students who want to learn about magical creatures[2] and it is important to earn a good O.W.L. grade in order to pursue a profession in Magizoology.[3]

Ministry of Magic classifications[]

  • XXXXX - this creature is a known witch or wizard killer that is impossible to train or domesticate.
  • XXXX - these are dangerous so only a skilled wizard with specialist knowledge should approach these creatures.
  • XXX - a competent wizard should cope.
  • XX - harmless creature, may be domesticated.
  • X - boring and harmless to work with.
