Muggle Studies was an elective subject taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It was the study of Muggle life and how they cope using technology and science instead of magic. It first appeared in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

The subject was an elective which could be chosen in the second-year to begin studying in the third-year.[2] It was taken until at least the fifth-year. If an acceptable pass grade was achieved at O.W.L. level, it could be continued into the sixth and seventh year at N.E.W.T. level.[3]
The subject was important for witches and wizards who decide to pursue a job where they work closely with Muggles, e.g. for the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office.[2] Hermione Granger and Ernie Macmillan took the subject in their third-year.[4] Hermione later dropped the subject before her fourth year because she didn't find it helpful. She achieved 320 per cent in her third-year examination.[5]
