Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback was the fourteenth chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
Events[]
Harry, Ron and Hermione begin preparing for an exam each for every subject and go to the Hogwarts library to research. Hagrid goes in acting strange, and they tell Hagrid that they know about the Philosopher's Stone. He asks them round for a chat at the Hut and they discover he was looking in a section about dragons.
They go to Hagrid's Hut that evening. Hagrid confirms that Fluffy's guarding the Philosopher's Stone. Fluffy was the first of six pieces of security in the way of the Stone. Harry thought that the Hut was unusually hot and Hagrid tells them he was given a dragon egg.
They try to tell Hagrid that he can't raise a dragon in a Hut and because it's illegal, he should give it away but he unpersuaded. It later hatched and Hagrid called it Norbert. Draco later found out and saw it through the window of the Hut. Thinking he would eventually tell a teacher, Harry, Ron and Hermione finally persuade Hagrid to give Norbert to Ron's brother, Charlie.
They send Charlie a letter and he agrees to send friends for Norbert. However Ron was bitten and he ends up in the Hospital Wing the evening they had to agreed to give the dragon to Charlie's friends. Draco sneaks in to speak to Ron and found Charlie's letter. Harry and Hermione sneak to the top of the Astronomy Tower at midnight under the Cloak of Invisibility.
Draco had told Professor McGonagall about their plan and they waited at the foot of the stairs to catch Harry and Hermione, but they snuck by under the Cloak. They give the dragon to Charlie's friends but Argus Filch caught them heading back down the stairs.
