Harry Potter Books Wiki

The North Tower is a tower at Hogwarts Castle. It appears in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

To get to it, students and staff have to walk up a spiral staircase to the seventh-floor Divination corridor. At the top of the staircase is the entrance to the Divination classroom. It is a tiny landing entered through a trap door on the ceiling which lowers a ladder to get up to it. It is unusual for students who don't take Divination to go up to this part of the school.[1]

At the start of their third year, Harry, Ron and Hermione didn't know what way to go to get to the tower when they got to the Divination corridor. Sir Cadogan had a painting in the corridor which took them to the left down the long landing towards the foot of the tower's stairs.[1]
