The Order of Merlin is an award bestowed upon those in the wizarding world who have achieved great and notable things. There are three levels; the highest rank is First Class, then there is Second Class, and finally Third Class.

About[]

Receiving the award is the highest possible honour to gain in the wizarding world. A person can be rewarded posthumously.[1]

History[]

In June 1994, Cornelius Fudge guaranteed Severus Snape an Order of Merlin (Second Class), but planned on trying to get him a First Class instead.[2] He had supposedly caught Sirius Black but the award was cancelled when he escaped custody.[3]
