Owl Post is the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Events[]
Harry is doing homework close to midnight at Privet Drive. He couldn't study in the day because the Dursleys had locked his possessions in the Cupboard under the Stairs, which he pick-locked every night. He also let Hedwig out of her cage. He was having a difficult summer with problems like his best friend Ron phoning the house and speaking to a very angry Vernon. Having worked for a while, he realises it's 1am. It's his thirteenth birthday.
Cards and gifts start arriving by owl. He receives the Monster Book of Monsters off Rubeus Hagrid, who implies there is a special purpose for the gift which he can't share until school starts. Ron sends Harry a Sneakoscope and a copy of the newspaper with the Weasleys on holiday due to Arthur's win in the Grand Prize Galleon Draw. Hermione, who is holiday in France, sends Harry a Broomstick Servicing Kit. His final letter was off Professor McGonagall with a list of books he needed for the new school year and a permission slip for a parent or guardian to sign so he could visit Hogsmeade, a village near Hogwarts.
