Polyjuice Potion is a potion which appears throughout the Harry Potter book series. It transforms the drinker's appearance into another person temporarily. It is very advanced and takes around thirty days to brew before it is ready.

The recipe for the Polyjuice Potion is in the book Moste Potente Potions.[1] It is a very complicated potion that includes the ingredients of lacewing flies, leeches, powdered bicorn horn, knotgrass and shredded boomslang skin.[2] It is a bubbling, treacle-thick potion when ready. It enables the drinker to take another appearance for an hour.[3]
It can't be used for animal transformation.[3] Hermione Granger partially transformed into a cat and had to stay in hospital taking a dose of medicine every evening until she returned to normal.[4]
History[]
The potion is known to second year Potions students but it is not taught.[1] Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger wanted to brew the potion to take the appearance of Draco Malfoy' friends. They thought he could tell Gregory Goyle and Vincent Crabbe whether he was the Heir of Slytherin. They found a few of the ingredients in the student store-cupboard, but had to steal a couple in the teacher store-cupboard.[2]
