Biography[]

Early work[]

Madam Pomfrey began working at Hogwarts School by September 1971. Until 1978, she took Remus Lupin to the Whomping Willow every full moon when he was to transform into a werewolf.[2] In or prior to late 1981, Poppy had noticed Albus Dumbledore had new earmuffs and complimented him, which made him blush.[3]

Philosopher's Stone[]

In September 1991, it took Poppy one minute to heal Neville Longbottom's broken wrist. She let him go the same day.[4] In spring 1992, Ronald Weasley was bitten by Rubeus Hagrid's pet dragon, Norberta. While she tended to it, he was worried that she would figure out what had bitten him which would put Hagrid in trouble but she never asked. He told her that it was from a dog but she didn't look convinced that she was telling the truth.[5]

In June 1992, Poppy cared for Harry after he saved the Philosopher's Stone from Voldemort. He was unconscious for three days but when he woke up, she let Albus Dumbledore talk to him. However, she had to be persuaded to let Ron and Hermione Granger visit him. She thought he should be taking the time to heal.[6]

Chamber of Secrets[]

In late 1992, Poppy was upset when Professor Lockhart "healed" Harry's broken elbow using the wrong spell when he should have spoken to her. Her course of treatment involved growing the bones back using Skele-Gro and since it was a painful process, she would not let Harry's friends stay and eat cake together.[7]

That evening, Poppy was woken up by Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall bringing a Petrified student, Colin Creevey to the Hospital Wing. Poppy opened up Colin's camera and saw how the film was destroyed. Dumbledore told her how Colin was proof the Chamber of Secrets was opened again.[7] The next day, Poppy checked Harry's elbow and then gave him permission to go.[8]

In December until February, Hermione stayed in the Hospital Wing when she was transformed into a cat by using Polyjuice Potion. Poppy had to put up a screen to stop other students trying to get a good look at her. She gave Hermione a dose of medicine every evening.[9]

Prisoner of Azkaban[]

On the first day of the new school term, she was called to Professor McGonagall's office before the Start-of-Term Feast. When she knocked on the door and walked in, she was not surprised to learn Harry was need of treatment again. She was unhappy to learn a Dementor had attacked him. She did not approve of letting them near Hogwarts. She thought other students were also going to effected by the Dementors. Harry didn't think he needed her help, nor did he agree with her when she implied he was "delicate". She decided he needed to eat chocolate and was delighted when he told her Remus Lupin had already given him pieces. She was glad Higwarts had finally hired a Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher who knew what he was doing.[10]
