History[]

List of borrowers from the Hogwarts library
Copies of the book are in the Hogwarts library. The book is very popular at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and students fight to borrow it.[5] According to the librarian, Irma Pince, students fawn over it nearly every day and generally do not treat it with care.[2]
In 1991, Hermione Granger borrowed it in preparation of her first Flying lesson to get advice.[6] Harry Potter borrowed it in the lead-up to the first ever Quidditch game he was to play against Slytherin. However, he was caught reading it at the Quidditch pitch outside Hogwarts Castle by Professor Snape, who stated it was against school rules. However, according to Ronald Weasley, it could be taken outside and Snape was being unfair.[5]
Muggle world edition[]
Before his death, Albus Dumbledore decided to pursue a republication of Quidditch Through the Ages to raise money for Comic Relief. After obtaining one from the Hogwarts library and copying it, the book was released in the Muggle world with the cover story that it is fictional. Everyone involved provided their services at a reduced cost so that the funds could be donated in Harry Potter's name.[2]
Libary books in the wizarding world can have spells put on them which can be transferred if they are copied. Irma Pince has also been known to put unusual jinxes of her own on Hogwarts library books. Dumbledore has removed the usual libary book spells from the Hogwarts library edition that he copied, but could not promise that Pince's had.[2]
