The Repelling Spell prevents from something from approaching or leaving an area.[2]
History[]
In 1269, a Golden Snidget was kept within the confines of a Quidditch pitch by spectactors using Repelling Charms. This game was the first one to involve catching something after Barberus Bragge released the bird and offered a prize of one-hundred and fifty Galleons to the player that caught it first. In subsequent Quidditch games, a Hunter tried to catch the Snidget to get one-hundred and fifty points and end the game. Thus, the Repelling Spell continued be used in Quidditch until the Snidget was replaced with the Golden Snitch.[2]

- Repelling is also a broad classification of Spells, and are classified alongside Masking and Disguising Spells, and all three contain a great variety which can be used to deter postal Owls.[3]
