Rolanda Hooch is a witch, the Flying instructor at Hogwarts School and supervisor at Inter-House Quidditch games.

Biography

In her youth, Rolanda first learned how to fly on a Silver Arrow broomstick. She eventually started working at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by the late twentieth century where she was the Flying instructor. She was also the referee during Inter-House Quidditch games. At the start of every school year, she tool the names of students who wanted to try-out for their House. Rolanda kept the balls locked up in her office until they were needed.

In September 1991, Rolanda taught Harry Potter and the other first year students how to fly for the first time. Her teaching was to the point but Neville Longbottom lost control and fell and had to be taken to the Hospital Wing. She gave the other students no permission to fly when she took him, but Harry and Draco Malfoy flew anyway.

During the first Quidditch game of the 1991-1992 school year, Rolanda supervised and asked for a fair game. Later, she awarded a penalty when Marcus Flint purposely blocked Seeker Harry Potter and he spun around.

In the first game of the 1992-1993 school year, Rolanda called for a break when Oliver Wood asked for it because Harry was being hunted by a rogue Bludger. Rolanda was not told about it because Harry thought they would have to forfeit the game for an investigation.

Before the first game of the 1993-1994 school year, Rolanda supervised Harry in training sessions in case he was potentially attacked by Sirius Black.

Appearance

Rolanda has short, grey hair and yellow eyes similar to a hawk.

Trivia

• In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 13, Rolanda says that she learned to fly on a Silver Arrow broomstick which went into production after 1901 but before 1926.
