Rubeus Hagrid has a wand which is 16 inches long, made of oak wood with an unknown core. Its creator is Garrick Ollivander. The wand is snapped when Hagrid is expelled from Hogwarts after which he puts the broken pieces in a pink umbrella.

History[]

Rubeus Hagrid purchased the wand at Ollivanders before he started Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in September 1938.

During his third year at Hogwarts, he was framed by Tom Riddle for opening the Chamber of Secrets. Hagrid was expelled but because he didn't grauate, his wand had to be snapped in half. Hagrid kept the broken pieces and he put them in a pink, flowerly[2] umbrella.[3][1] Hagrid's broken wand was not very good and it had limitations. It's unknown whether it was because of the damage or Hagrid's incomplete education but he couldn't get the spells to work properly. When he attempted transfiguration by turning Dudley Dursley into a pig, he only managed to produce a pig's tail.[3]

In July 1991, Hagrid took Harry Potter to Ollivanders. Garrick still knew the wand he had sold to Hagrid'. He asked him whether they broke it when he was expelled. Hagrid said he kept the pieces and Garrick was sceptical when Hagrid tried to say he hadn't used the wand since.[1] By September 1992, Hagrid began using the umbrella to use the Engorgement Charm and enlarge the pumpkins he was growing in the vegetable patch at the Hut.[2]
