The Salamander is a fire-dwelling lizard in the Harry Potter book series and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
About[]
Salamanders live in and feed on the flames they are born in. They will live for however long it stays alight, and can survive up to 6 hours outside of it if they are regularly fed pepper. Salamander blood has powerful healing properties. They are a brilliant white but turn scarlet or blue depending on the level of heat they are in.[1]
History[]
In 1992, Fred and George Weasley fed a Dr Filibuster Firework to a salamander they purportedly saved at Hogwarts. The firework caused it to spin around the room in sparks.[2]
In 1993, Rubeus Hagrid taught a third-year Care of Magical Creatures class about salamanders. They had to collect wood and leaves to keep their fire going, and they scampered around the logs.[3]
