Sirius Black's motorbike is an enchanted motorcycle capable of flying. It appears throughout the Harry Potter book series.
It is owned by Sirius Black until Rubeus Hagrid borrows it to take Harry Potter to Privet Drive. The bike is broken during the Second Wizarding War. Harry inherits the bike at the end of the war once it is mended by Arthur Weasley.
About[]
The bike is magically enchanted to make it fly and it is started with a kickstart. It is possible to make it magically larger than a normal bike because it is capable of holding Rubeus Hagrid, a half-giant. It also has a sidecar and an exhaust, and buttons are later magically added to make the exhaust into a trap to throw things. It makes a rumbling sound and a roar when it lands, and it has headlights.[1][2]
History[]
Sirius Black owned the motorbike by the time he and James Potter were chased by the Muggle police in 1977. The police officers backed them into a corner who they confused when they flew away on the bike, breaking the International Statute of Secrecy.[3]

In 1981, both Sirius and Rubeus Hagrid found James and Lily Potter dead in Godric's Hollow. Hagrid had an order from Albus Dumbledore to take Harry Potter to Privet Drive, and Sirius let him borrow the bike. Hagrid found it odd that he let him take it because he knew Sirius loved the bike. Sirius was falsely convicted of killing the Potters, and until he was proven innocent, Hagrid thought it was why he parted with the bike. Hagrid had tried to give the bike back to Sirius but he failed, and kept the bike when Sirius was imprisoned in Azkaban.[1]
In June 1991, Harry had a dream about a flying motorbike. He thought that he had dreamed it about before. Having no memory or knowledge of magic because Vernon and Petunia Dursley didn't him tell him, he had no idea that it was actually a memory and not a dream.[4]
In July 1997, Hagrid and Arthur Weasley added magical buttons to throw traps and barriers from the exhaust in case of a chase. Hagrid took the bike to drive Harry from Privet Drive to the Tonks family during the Battle of the Seven Potters. Death Eaters pursued the bike, so Hagrid used the buttons to throw a large net and a solid brick wall at them. However, the bike was damaged by the time they made it to the Tonks house, and Hagrid had to dive off the bike to stop the Death Eaters from getting Harry. They took the broken bike to The Burrow where Arthur put it in the backyard shed to try and mend it.[2] He eventually succeeded and gave the bike back to Harry when the Second Wizarding War ended.[5]
