The Special Award for Services to the School is an award given at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to students who achieve something notable. It is a large, gold shield kept in a corner cabinet in the trophy room.[1] It appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

History[]

In 1943, Tom Riddle was given the award for supposedly capturing the student responsible for opening the Chamber of Secrets, Rubeus Hagrid. He had in fact framed Hagrid, but Professor Dippet thought he was telling the truth and gave him an award.[2]

In September 1992, Ron saw the award when he was cleaning the trophy room[1] and remembered it when he later heard Tom Riddle's name.[2] In June 1993, Ron and Harry Potter proved Hagrid's innocence and Riddle's guilt, but it's unknown if the award was taken back.[2] Professor Dumbledore gave an award to Harry and Ron for saving the school and slaying the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets.[3]
