The staff-room is located on the ground[1] floor of Hogwarts Castle in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

About[]

It is a long, panelled room which has mismatched[3][2] dark wooden chairs and a large wardrobe for staff to keep their spare robes.[3] The doorway is flanked by two stone gargoyles which challenge students whenever they attempt to enter the room.[4]

History[]

Professor Binns taught History of Magic. A long time ago, he passed away in a chair when he was taking a nap in the staff room. However, he woke up a ghost and simply got back up and continued to teach.[5]

In 1992, Harry Potter went to the staff-room to get a book from Professor Snape. He opened the door to find Argus Filch healing Snape's leg and talking about Fluffy biting him. Harry run out the room when they shouted at him, which he thought was proof that Snape was trying to get the Philosopher's Stone.[6]

The staff-room used to have a wardrobe and had a Boggart living in it on the 2nd to 3rd of September 1993. Professor Lupin used it to teach third-year students Defence Against the Dark Arts.[2]
