Stan Shunpike is a wizard and conductor of the Knight Bus. He first appears in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

He is sent to Azkaban for being a suspected Death Eater when he foolishly told people he had inside information. He was broken out by Death Eaters and forced to join under the Imperius Curse. It's unknown if Stan survived the Second Wizarding War, but if he did, he would have been freed of their control.

Biography[]

Prisoner of Azkaban[]

In August 1993, Stan was the conductor of the Knight Bus. He greeted Harry Potter when he unintentionally called for the bus. He found him on the ground and asked him what he was doing. He noticed Harry kept looking at a house, and asked him why. He informed Stan about a black dog he saw in the dark. Stan noticed his lightning-bolt scar and suspected he was the "Boy who Lived". Harry thought he was in already trouble for using magic on his aunt and thought he was on the run from the Ministry of Magic. He lied to Stan, telling him he was "Neville Longbottom" instead.[2]

Harry was confused about what the bus was for so Stan explained how it worked. He told him the price for a ticket before helping Harry get onto the bus and giving him a bed. He introduced Harry to Ernie, the driver and asked where he wanted to go. The bus continued dropping passengers at their stop. Stan helped people get off while talking to Harry. He answered every question he asked.[2] Harry saw the front page of the Daily Prophet which was headlining the escape of Sirius Black. Stan told him how Black was a murderer who escaped Azkaban. He shuddered when he was talking about the Dementors which guard it. He unnerved Ernie who started shivering so he asked Stan to change the subject. Harry ordered a hot chocolate but Stan dropped it when he was bringing it to him. The bus eventually arrived at Harry's destination, the Leaky Cauldron. Stan was shocked to find Cornelius Fudge waiting for Harry and told Ernie. He was especially pleased to hear Fudge confirm the passenger really was Harry Potter like he suspected.[2]
