The Stunning Spell[1], also called the Stupefying Charm[2], (incantation: Stupefy[3]) is a powerful charm that stuns and renders the target temporarily unconscious.
Effect[]
The spell will stun the target and throw them backwards in the air. They are rendered temporarily unconscious but do not suffer any lasting damage.[3] Using the Stunning Spell on a Pogrebin is one of the only ways to repel it.[4]
History[]
Flavius Belby was on holiday in Papau New Guinea when he was attacked by a Lethifold. While it was strangling him, he tried to counter it by using random spells. The first was the Stupefying Charm but it didn't work on the shadow. Instead, the magic flew through the creature and blasted a hole in his bedroom door.[2]
After the Death Eaters attack during the 422nd Quidditch World Cup, one produced the Dark Mark in the sky. Barty Crouch Snr. and other Ministry officials Apparated to the scene and immediately fired Stunning Spells to try and apprehend them. Instead, they narrowly missed Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, and struck Winky.[3]
