Switching Spells[1] are transfiguration spells that swap an object for another. It is said by Professor McGonagall that they are "simple".[2]
History[]
In her first-year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Hermione Granger gained House points in Transfiguration for knowing about them.[1] These spells were not taught until the fourth-year. Neville Longbottom failed to produce these spells.[2]
Hermione suggested that Harry used a Switching Spell in the first task of the Triwizard Tournament to swap a dragon's teeth for wine gums, but they decided it probably wouldn't work because getting spells past a dragon's hide was near impossible.[3] In June 1996, Harry Potter forgot the definition of Switching Spells in the first Transfiguration O.W.L. exam.[4]
